Volunteer opportunity description

Our primary, consistent need is for assistance in setting up and breaking down the sale, which involves physically retrieving, arranging, and gathering, stowing inventory, as well as deploying and undeploying folding tables, chairs, and mobile bookcases.

Our secondary need is for assistance in processing incoming donations, using both software and general knowledge of subjects and genres to sort the material.

Finally, volunteers may also be asked to assist with customer service, including offering recommendations, assisting patrons in locating items of interest, and other tasks.


Volunters who wish to assist with opening or closing the sale will ideally possess the ability to lift up to 40 pounds, to ascend and descend small flights of stairs, and reach shelves above eye-level.

This is not necessarily a requirement, as many other setup and breakdown tasks do not require any signifcant lifting or other physical exertion.

Volunteers who will be sorting inbound donations need to have a solid understanding of fiction and nonfiction genres and subjects as well as film/television and music genres.

Previous experience in a book or media retail environment would be especially helpful, but not required.
