Volunteer opportunity description

United Rescue Jersey City is a new, exciting volunteer opportunity for residents who either live or work in Jersey City. Jersey City Medical Center EMS has partnered with United Rescue to train, equip, and pilot this new program here in the United States. Jersey City Medical Center EMS launched this program in late 2015 and we already have 50 volunteers on the streets of our city providing timely emergency medical care before the arrival of EMS. Our goal is reduce response times and ensure that people in Jersey City receive timely emergency medical care when they call 911.

All successful applicants must be over the age of 18. All candidates must pass a criminal background check, health assessment, and interview process.

Candidates then partake in a 65 hour course taught by JCMC EMS staff. The course is a combination of lectures and practical based scenarios. The course is given over an eight week period (8 hours per week) and covers many pertinent EMS topics including respiratory emergencies, cardiac emergencies, and traumatic calls.

Candidates then spend approximately 25 hours with JCMC EMS EMT's and paramedics on the ambulances. This gives our volunteers practical experience to ensure that they are fully prepared to treat patients.

Upon completion of all requirments, CBEC's are certified in CPR at the professional level and receive an emergency medical responder certification.
